MULTI-STATE LUNG INJURY OUTBREAK ASSOCIATED WITH E-CIGARETTES

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) are investigating a multi-state outbreak of lung injuries associated with e-cigarette use, also referred to as vaping. These devices heat a liquid to produce an aerosol that users inhale into their lungs. The liquid can contain nicotine, THC, CBD and other additives. According to the CDC, there are 530* cases of lung injury reported from 38 states and 1 U.S. territory. Seven deaths have been confirmed in 6 states.

The CDC recommends stopping use of all e-cigarette products to avoid further outbreak. Specifically, they recommend that youth and young adults and pregnant women should not vape.

VAPING-RELATED LUNG INJURY OUTBREAK CLAIMS PENNSYLVANIA VICTIMS

A Bloomsburg University student is currently in a coma in a Philadelphia hospital due to e-cigarette use. The 19-year old is on life support and his parents are pleading with other parents to have a conversation with their children before it’s too late.

St. Luke’s hospital in the Lehigh Valley has treated a half dozen young adults for lung injury related to vaping in just the last 3-4 months.

At least 37 total lung injury cases from e-cigarettes have been reported in Pennsylvania – all of which came to light in just the last month. As a result, The Health Department has launched an investigation into what these products have that is causing this outbreak.
