WHAT IS SUBDURAL BLEEDING?

Subdural bleeding is a traumatic brain injury that causes blood to gather in the layers of tissue that surround the brain. The bleeding causes pressure to build up in the brain and could lead to permanent brain damage and death if not treated immediately.

The most terrifying fact of subdural bleeding is that while symptoms of a subdural bleeding sometimes show immediately, it is common for them to go undetected for as long as 2 weeks. Delayed diagnosis and treatment of this type of brain injury could be fatal.

THERE ARE 3 TYPES OF SUBDURAL HEMATOMAS:

ACUTE SUBDURAL HEMATOMA

These are the most harmful of all brain injuries. Acute bleeds develop after high speed acceleration or deceleration injuries such as high speed accidents. These injuries are made worse when associated with contusions.

SUBACUTE SUBDURAL HEMATOMA

These injuries develop slowly over a period of days to weeks. Minor head trauma is often the cause of subacute hematomas and due to the slow progression of them there is a good chance of stopping them before any severe or permanent damage is caused.

CHRONIC SUBDURAL HEMATOMA

Chronic subdural bleeds generally show symptoms within minutes, but it’s not uncommon for symptoms to show as late as 2 weeks. If the bleeds are large signs of intracranial pressure, or even brain damage will be present.

COMMON CAUSES OF THE SUBDURAL BLEEDING ARE:
