On June 4, 2026, Target announced a voluntary recall of two of its store brand Up & Up baby wipe lines: the Fragrance Free Baby Wipes and the Fresh Cucumber Scented Baby Wipes. After customer complaints of product discoloration, FDA testing identified the presence of Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioli bacteria in product samples.
The recalled products
The affected wipes were manufactured for Target by Sapro Temizlik Urunleri and sold at Target stores nationwide and on Target’s website. The recall spans a range of package sizes: Fragrance Free wipes in 20, 72, 216, 800, and 1,200 count, and Fresh Cucumber Scented wipes in 72, 216, and 800 count. The recall is limited to specific lots identified by manufacturing date codes and expiration dates: Fragrance Free wipes manufactured from November 7, 2025 through May 5, 2026 (expiration dates between May 10, 2028 and November 5, 2028), and Fresh Cucumber Scented wipes manufactured December 29 through December 30, 2025 (expiration dates between June 29, 2028 and June 30, 2028).
Why Burkholderia contamination is serious
Burkholderia bacteria pose particular risk to infants, whose skin and immune systems are still developing, and any contamination in a product used on broken or irritated skin (exactly the conditions of diaper changes) creates a direct pathway for infection.
